Lana Marks:
Sustainability and Conservation
Since its founding in 1989, Lana Marks has remained actively and passionately committed to the preservation of American Alligator through a farm-raising program that sees a significant portion of all alligators returned to the wild. By using farm-raised American Alligator, the hatching rate of the eggs, and thus the survival rate of the species, increases from 6%-8% to 85%. Since this program was enacted, and thanks to the work of American farmers and ranchers, the wild American Alligator population has gone from 150,000 to around 5 million — in the space of just five decades.
This program has received international recognition for being a model of conservation and sustainability. And, by providing economic incentive for sustainable use, and by only using farm-raised alligator, the Lana Marks brand is proud to have played a part in preserving an ancient species that is unique to the United States, and that at one time was facing extinction. As such, all Lana Marks products proudly adhere to the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES), which strictly regulates and tracks the use of certain species.
