World renowned handbag designer, Ambassador Lana J. Marks, knows that necessity is the mother of invention, and sometimes even the spark for an international fashion brand.
In 1984, Marks and her husband were invited to a very special occasion - a birthday celebration for Queen Elizabeth II aboard the royal yacht Britannia. A fruitless search for a red alligator handbag to match her suit led Marks to conclude that a niche existed in the marketplace for luxury, fashion handbags in fabulous colors in high-end exotic leathers. She decided to devote two years studying the techniques of luxury handbag design and production in Italy, working with the most skilled artisans in the world. In 1991, she launched her first design, a hot pink alligator lunch handbag. It was an instant success.
Since then LANA MARKS has been synonymous with the most fabulous handbags in the world, crafted from such exotic leathers as American alligator, ostrich, and lizard. The handbags and accessories are a favorite among royalty, such as, Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece, Princess Firyal of Jordan and the late Diana, Princess of Wales. LANA MARKS creations are the favorites of many entertainment royalty: Sarah Jessica Parker, Charlize Theron, Oprah Winfrey, Kate Winslet, Drew Barrymore, Kate Hudson, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston and Madonna.
Marks and her daughter, Tiffany Marks Isaacs, currently oversee the design and production of the LANA MARKS collections, which consist of over 150 styles in an array of colors and materials. Each aspect of production is meticulously scrutinized from the selection of American alligator to the tanning process in France to the Italian artisans who make each piece by hand.
